Overview

The Mount Vernon Country Club approached Shremshock in 2004 to design a remodel program for their aging 14,000 square foot clubhouse. The clubhouse building was originally constructed in 1921. Situated over a beautiful golf course, with commanding views of the surrounding countryside, the clubhouse building had been expanded with several small additions and been redecorated several times over the past ninety years. The resulting facility was well loved by its membership, but also well worn and in need of some new life. Shremshock provided full architectural services from design concept through construction administration. The vision put forth by the Shremshock team required stripping the existing structure down to base framing and foundations to install modern building systems and finishes. The new design showcases the MVCC clubhouse as a world class facility, with custom millwork, casework and furnishings, all designed and selected by Shremshock. The exterior of the building was reinterpreted to make a strong statement on the site, while adding to the beauty of the surrounding landscape and golf course. Maximizing views both exterior and interior, was a driving influence in the design, creating focal areas such as the custom bar and fire places that created powerful axis with the site. With an eye on sustainable design principles, sun-shading was addressed along the west facing facade by extending the eave depth and installing state of the art glazing. Geo-thermal heating and cooling were chosen, along with energy efficient lighting which both exceed ASHRAE 90.1 minimum standards. Included in the scope were new commercial kitchens, formal and informal dining, custom locker room facilities and pro-shop.
